Kitchen Remodel

As promised, here’s the story with the kitchen remodel…
When we bought the house, we knew the kitchen had to be a gut job – the layout was awkward, the lighting was terrible, the cabinets were useless… every time you opened a drawer the items on the shelves below were filled with sawdust..
We hated the floors- they were some kind of pine, glued down on top of the original floors, so they were raised up almost 1 inch above the rest of the flooring.

We picked out Lyptus cabinets from SHowplace – they look like mahogany but are supposed to be a farmed, “Green” hardwood from Brazil. Stanstead Grey granite countertops (same as we had in Ashland). GE Cafe series gas dual oven range, Samsung counter depth french door refrigerator, Fisher & Paykel drawer dishwasher, venta-hood range hood. The floor tiles are 12×24 Anatolia Attomano Argento “High Definition” and the backsplash is subway tile pattern3x3 anotilia Capri Classico. We kept the upper and lower cabinet in the alcove and converted it to our “Coffee & Beverage Center”, putting a new granite top on. Flooring & granite were all from Garcia Tile – really nice owner Manny. Under cabinet lighting is all LED, and we found a fantastic commercial style DEEP 2 bowl sink made by Kraus on Amazon (Amazon is amazing).  We bought all our appliances from Ray’s Appliance in Taunton MA- an old style appliance store with great people and great service – and modern appliances!
Our Fabulous contractor said “No Problem” when we asked if we could open up the wall between the dining room and the kitchen (it had a small doorway). We removed the window and door between the kitchen and the new room, so there is plenty of light & views. Our contractor redid the sub floor so that the new tile is flush with the existing hardwood. He modified the other window so that the countertop is now the window-sill – really fantastic. Kevin mounted some of the leftover trim above the window to use for the pot rack over the window.

I LOVE my Kitchen- did I say that? The workspace is excellent, the appliances work great – I have so much storage space that I hate to admit I have empty drawers and some empty shelves.
